Sacramento County New Home Information

New home residents living in Sacramento County live in the state's capital and as of 2006 the population was 1,347,799. Sacramento County covers about 994 square miles in the middle of the Central Valley, a prime agricultural region. Leading agricultural crops include: rice, milk, wine grapes, Bartlett pears, field corn, and tomatoes.

Sacramento County extends from the low delta lands between the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers north to about 10 miles beyond the State Capitol and east to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The southernmost portion of Sacramento County has direct access to the San Francisco Bay. The region provides 14 Regional Parks Districts close to the area's numerous new home neighborhoods.

Sacramento is the core cultural and economic center of its four-county metropolitan area (El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties) with a combined population of 2,136,604. The Sacramento Metropolitan Area is the largest in the Central Valley, and is the fourth-largest in California, behind the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the San Diego area. New home communities in the greater Sacramento area enjoy the prestige of the area being cited as one of the five "most livable" regions in America in 2004 and the city was cited by Time magazine as America's most integrated in 2002.

Professional sports teams include the NBA's Sacramento Kings, WNBA's Monarchs, and the Rivercats, a minor league baseball team.

Major transportation and economical outlets includes 20.5 miles of light rail system, three mainline railroad tracks, Sacramento International airport with10 million passengers annually, and the Port of Sacramento which ships 870,000 short tons of cargo annually.

New home residents send their children to 16 public school districts with 386 schools delivering education to more than 230,000 K-12 public school students. Higher education can be found at 19 major public and private colleges and universities. California State University, Sacramento is the major local university. In addition, the University of California, Davis is located in nearby Davis, just west of the capital. Residents also enjoy 15 major art and historical museums.
