Desert Resort Communities New Home Information

New home communities comprising the desert resort area include: Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, Coachella, Thousand Palms, Thermal, Needles and Yucca Valley.

The majority of these communities fall within Riverside County with the overwhelming appeal linked to such famous golf resorts as Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, Palm Desert and La Quinta - where the PGA WEST and Skins Game are held each year. Additional draws to the new home neighborhoods of the desert is the year-round dry arid temperature as well as an abundance of Indian gaming establishments.

Cathedral City is known as the hub of entertainment, with its Big League Dreams Sports Park, Cimarron Golf Resort and dozens of theaters.

Desert Hot Springs has twice as many spa resorts as any of the other cities, while Indian Wells is the site of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, a 16,000-seat structure where the Pacific Life Open Tennis Series is held each year.

Indio, the oldest and largest city, is the date capital of the world, but is known as the 'city of festivals' for its eclectic rock festival, tamale and salsa festival and Southwest arts festival.

Desert Resort community students attend schools in the Riverside County School district. There are five Unified School Districts in the area including: Desert Center, Desert Sands, Coachella Valley, Palm Springs and Palo Verde. Area community colleges include Desert Community College, Palo Verde Community College and Riverside Community College.
